Dear Parents,
This summer, Caitlyn Sommers of Ivy Insiders - who has just graduated from U Penn last weekend (Congratulations!) - will be offering her final SAT prep course at Montfort. The proposed schedule covers the last three weeks in July, from the 11th through August 1st. (See attached calendar.) It includes 4 full practice tests held each Monday, from 9am-1pm, and 6 class sessions held from 9am-12pm. The cost remains the same as the last two years, $599.
Who should enroll? Rising juniors, rising seniors (who will take the SAT a second time in the fall), ambitious sophomores.
This course follows the same format as the others we have run the previous two summers, but now includes new features. This is because Ivy Insiders was recently purchased by the other company we have been working with, Revolution Prep.
Remember when we tried to rally for an SAT class with Revolution Prep this spring? Marc Tambini, whom I worked with this spring, is the regional representative.
There are two apparent differences between the regular Revolution Prep group courses and Caitlyn's:
1) the regular Revolution Prep courses advertise 5 full practice tests instead of Caitlyn's 4
2) the regular Revolution Prep course costs $499, as opposed to Caitlyn's $599
Here is the explanation:
1) Caitlyn's course does offer a 5th exam. Students can save their 5th exam to use as a problem set and work on it for extra practice during the course or as post-course review, or they can take the fifth exam as another proctored practice exam. If they would like to take it as a proctored exam they can attend any exam session at another course location during the summer. Caitlyn will be holding exams on 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, and 8/6 in Ridgefield, and 8/5, 8/10, 8/15, and 8/19 at Kennedy in Somers. She will provide students with a list of possible exam dates and locations in the area so that students can attend where and when they find it most convenient. This option also allows students to take a proctored exam later in the summer and closer to the actual SAT exam date.
2) Price difference. At this time, the Ivy League students offering courses with Revolution Prep are classified as their "premium" instructors, while other instructors, though trained, come from all walks of life. Caitlyn not only gained acceptance into an Ivy League school but scored in the 99th percentile on her SAT I, earned perfect scores on her AP Tests and the Math IIC SAT II, and was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. (Now that's what I call credentials!)
Revolution Prep's acquisition of Ivy Insiders accounts for the other new perks, advertised on the post cards handed out by Caitlyn: two extra "booster courses" in subject areas, two hours of "group tutoring," and the "online review course." We can discuss these helpful bonuses in greater detail at a later date.
